A dated kitchen opened up and rebuilt with new cabinetry, stone countertops and a full trim package.
The basement was the usual starting point: open framing, exposed services and a concrete floor. The brief was a family room that did not feel like a basement, with a bar area and somewhere to put everything that had been living down there.
Framing and services came first, then insulation, drywall and a full trim package so the finishes read as part of the house rather than an afterthought. Lighting was laid out to compensate for the low natural light, which is what usually gives a finished basement away.
